If, and that's a very big if, LJ ever goes bust, I have setup accounts on Inksome, as recommended to me by [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna, which I have invites for should anyone want (150 userpics for basic accounts!).

Personal - Fanfic - Media

I got round to checking out my [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking today.

I got:
SG1 Daniel/Vala drabble by [livejournal.com profile] curia_regis
2 SPN Bela icons by [livejournal.com profile] maharet83
Primeval Abby/Connor ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] rodlox
SCC John/Cameron drabble by [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer
IOU from [livejournal.com profile] rodlox for a fic (you are so generous, thank you!)
+ well wishes. :)

I wrote a few ficlets (TW Tosh/Owen, SCC John, SGA Sheppard/Vala, SCC/Angel crossover), commented with recs for a number of people and made a SCC Sarah/Cameron header. It was fun. I'd wanted to get more stuff done and might have done if not for the nasty New Years cold. I've still got an Ironman EP fanmix that I didn't get round to posting, and an IOU I left for one participant. Anyhow, I'll be posting what I wrote properly here shortly. :)

I will write a drabble for the first ten people to comment and ask for one. In return, you must post this in your journal, if you feel so inclined. You may request the character and/or pairing [though I can't promise I will write them in a relationship] with a lyric, word, and/or quote for any of my fandoms.

Only 3/10 taken.

People voted for more Primeval icons and here some be.

I added 5 from 2x06 (three [livejournal.com profile] primevalstills entries, plus two variants on one); 1 Helen and 4 creature ones.

I updated the following posts:
-a few more to 2x07.
-a few (2 Helen and 2 Nick) intro sequence icons here.
-more challenge icons posted; 1 Caroline and 1 creature icon for 2x03.
-plus 26 added to my 2x01 post.

Let me pimp out [livejournal.com profile] mwexplosion, which has been created for the McKay/Weir novel(la) writing event soon to kick off, but is also going to have smaller contests in the meantime - starting with our first icontest, for episode 1x01-02 "Rising". Go here for Challenge 1 rules and submissions post.

M/W or SGA graphics flisters, why not have a go? G'on ;)

Would anyone be interested in a Bad Boys & Wicked Women ficathon? I got the idea from discussion over on [livejournal.com profile] primeval_denial about the character of Helen and thought it would be cool to have a multifandom ficathon focusing on the lesser liked morally ambigious/love-to-hate characters and even outright villians.

Think Helen or Leek from Primeval, Kavanagh, Michael or Wraith from SGA etc, Cylons on BSG, Sarah Corvus from Bionic Woman, The Master or any Dr Who foil, Goa'uld, Ori or Replicators from SG-1, Death Eaters from Harry Potter...the list goes on.

Of course I may be oblivious and there's already something like this going on somewhere out there...But if not, what do people think of it?

OKay, primeval flisters- I'm a pimping out the Time for Aventure Primeval forums to ya. They are just getting started, I joined up and have been posting a little. Looks to be fun but needs more people - would be great to have more in-depth ongiong discussions on the show over there. :D

Also, filled out an interesting survey today that I saw over on [livejournal.com profile] fanthropology and thought I'd help out by promoting that.

A master's student at Georgetown is working on fan fiction for her thesis. There's a survey and she needs as many people from as many fandoms as possible to complete it so that the diversity of fan culture is represented.

If you have a minute, please check it out and send the link to your friends. The survey can be found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=1idSovixsYIF7EpKO2EGpQ_3d_3d .

I've agreed to help spread the word, but if you have any questions/concerns, you can email her at kem82 @ georgetown.edu.

So, the Primeval Archive I've been organising is finally open. It's a bit bare but perfectly functional. Where is it? See http://www.primevalarchive.co.uk/.

And it's not just a fic archive. It's designed to take vid listings (files hosted offsite), meta, in depth reviews, as well as offsite fic and vid recs via the recommendations system. There's also a challenges section where you can search for inspiration or post up your plot bunnies to see if anyone runs away with them. To use most features you do need to register, but unregistered users can still submit reviews and use the neat shoutbox function to let others know what they think and join in the fun. If you want to keep up with new items at the archive there's a most recent page but also an rss feed you can subscribe to.

Currently we have an opening challenge of "Introductions" to get people's imaginations going and a poll to rate episode 2.06 (but not for much longer with 2.07 airing tomorrow). I hope people'll come and take a look, and for those of you who create stuff for the fandom please post your things there. :) Submissions are checked for the first three or so, but after that provided you've had no problems using the system then you get validated and items post instantly to the site.

Soo, the small team of us now working on the Primeval Archive are sort of stumped on a name. Primevalfic kind of won't do since the plan is also to have vid recs and listings on there. We have a few names but are wary that anything ARC based might be out the window for relevancy if they shift stuff about again and the ARC doesn't exist or something. Anyhow, got a poll with the current choices but please, if you have any suggestions let us know! :)

Please note where it says ARCHive it should read ARChive - made a typo and don't know how to edit the poll now, oops.

7 Days

In a couple of weeks, once I'm more organised and have gotten my secret santa stuff done, I was thinking of doing a couple "7 days of" events on my journal. That'd be me making sure to post something on the fannish topic for every day for a week. I've got a few ideas for what I'd like to do it on but not sure which to start with, so thought I'd see how popular each of them is. Bear in mind I'll probably take prompts for them.

Vote behind here )

Just thought this might be of interest to people.

[livejournal.com profile] anr is holding a vidding competition for free webspace.

Appeal for the Diana + Marco month of love. We're looking a bit better now but it's one week away from July and the early days of the month are looking sparse. We need another 20 people to contribute to fill up the month, especially early on.

A Marco icon. A Diana drabble. A Maia and Diana mini vid. Tom and Diana partners banner - all good things we'd love to see. Don't forget friendships for the characters with other characters is fine too - family or friendship. Why not explore Diana's relationship with her father or her sister or even her mother or likewise show us Marco's (presumably loving) family!

There's so much choice of what to contribute, little or big, you choose what and how much and when.

Crossposted quite a few places, sorry for anyone seeing it more than once.

Syfy Portal is calling for nominations for shows/films by May 20th. Stuff is eligible if it aired between June 1, 2006 and May, 31st 2007. I found out via [livejournal.com profile] 4400spoilers who posted with 4400 related suggestions, some of which I decided to back.

And here's what I decided to nominate )
purpleyin: Cameron from Sarah Connor Chronicles looking to the side (Default)
Saw this around and decided it looked fun and not too much of a committment.

Name three fics you think I will never, ever, ever write. In return(and if inspired), I will attempt to write a snippet of one of them.

On my watch list was.

Lost - getting awesome again in my opinion.

Drive - which didn't materialise, damn why can't they give us those last 2 eps!

Boston Legal - wonderful, as it always is.

Ugly Betty - I just continue to love the surprises and the character growth, so hope there will be S2.

cut for slightly spoilery Heroes 1x20, Supernatural 2x20, Scrubs S6 and My Name Is Earl 2x22 comments )

Also S1 Smallville, watched the first disc as we've started playing catch up. Honestly, everyone seems to want to be/fancy Lana and that's not so funny. Nice as Kristin Kreuk is, I don't find Lana that hot, though head cheerleaders seem to get idolised in all films. She's also playing a character who seems fairly similar to her Edgemont one... if with a little less bite early on in the show. But anyway, I kind of enjoy the freak of the week deal even if some powers are laughably acquired. Plus, whenever Mark Snow does music it sounds so samey to me, like music for X files and Smallville melt together... Slightly offputting but eh, it wouldn't really stop me watching.

- "Somewhere in time", watched for Christoper Reeve, mainly rented because [livejournal.com profile] fuskyb has a Superman fascination and wanted to see him as someone else. Nice concept, not badly acted but somehow meh. A few cheesy moments. Sacrilege as this may be to fuskyb I'd love to see a remake of the film.

- "John Tucker Must Die" pretty cliche, predictable, sometimes cringeworthy in prank execution but nevertheless good comedy acting, fairly enjoyable to rent if you want some fluff. Also fun to see Dan Payne playing "Skip".

- "Hard Candy" was...psychologically draining, did sort of bore me with it's slowness at times but was intriguing enough anyway, so I kept watching. You'd probably like it if you like plays, given the nature of the film and fact it was written by a playwright. Relatively low budget, filmed in two small locations and with only 5 actors, one of whom was Sandra Oh from Grey's Anatomy and the main character played by Ellen Paige who you might just about recognise as Kitty Pryde from X-men: The Last Stand; somehow they managed to make her 17/18, look a believable 14...

Just want to point out there's a Teyla prompt battle on [livejournal.com profile] teylafen that I thought some people reading this might be interested in participating in.

What is it? I promise it's all good. :)

From now until midnight Saturday 28th April, UK time, they'll be collecting prompts for the battle in the comments to the above linked post. Then the day after, Sunday, a list of prompts will be posted up and it's a free for all to create art/fic/vid etc about any or all of the prompts with the aim of creating lots of lovely Teyla fannish goods.

Just to pimp it out, incase anyone reading might be interested in joining the remix fun - [livejournal.com profile] gateverse_remix. It's the one ficathon-esque thing I'm allowing myself to sign up for, mainly given it has a healthy amount of time between assignment and deadline.

Also on a fandom related note, thank you to those who nominated me for the Isis Awards. I have 3 fics nominated this year, 2 McKay/Weir (A Mutual Feeling & XYZ) and also 1 Kavanagh/Simpson (Nostalgia), which was squeeful to see up on the list today since I wasn't expecting any non-M/W noms. To be honest I wasn't entirely sure if I'd get anything nominated because my fic output has been low this last year, not exactly putting me on anyone's radar, and in that time I've barely written any M/W to boot. So it was a pleasant enough surprise just to see I had two noms for that - it cheered me up. Big hugs to you, whoever you are.

Work was good I think, I at least had things given to me to do but had less time at home tonight because we both walked in due to a bike puncture. I spent it online mostly, made a Sanctuary facebook group to pimp out the show, now that they have a 2 minute trailer online for all. Off to watch Ugly Betty before it gets too late for that kind of relaxing.

Firstly, I was listening to aforementioned internet radio station and a song came on, such a Supernatural song. I thought someone should vid it, noted song down only to realise later the currently playing thingy on the site was broken and despite knowing it probably played about 6AM over there I can't find the likely song on the playlist. Grr. I tried for ages just now and now the idea is lost because I can't work out which it is since there aren't lyrcis available for all of them. Heh, I shouldn't be wasting my time like that though.

The things that interested me and I've decided to point out would be the [livejournal.com profile] fanthropology link to Why People Break up with their favorite TV Shows which seemed especially interesting with the end of SG-1 and much fandomwank and discontent going on in several different fandoms currently.

Also, a good excuse to be messy. I thought there was more but somehow not. Back to finishing Isis noms, last day and all.
