I haven't the foggiest notion why so many people write that he's a chemist. Electrical engineer or mechanical engineer, now those would make sense. My impression was that he's not in a theoretical discipline, or even that he's at all incompetent as he's often written. He's arrogant, feels strongly about rules, and doesn't like taking chances.
