The second best thing comes mainly from the challenge, though it's a thought I've pondered on as surely he's one of the more obviously second best on personality given how well he doesn't get on with people there. I thought exploring him via Elizabeth would be good for both the characters because her having picked him must've meant she thought something good of him originally and I wanted to try and understand the dynamic between those two. Getting to have Elizabeth doing what she's meant to do best is just a bonus for this fic, I wish they gave her a chance to showcase her talents on the show.
