I haven't had much luck picking movies lately. "Thirteen", despite being very well acted and shot went nowhere much, was often confusing and generally bored me. Then came "Real Woman Have Curves" watched to see America Ferrara as someone other than Ugly Betty...The film was okay, well acted, again suffering from not going anywhere much with the ending but it really mainly suffered by the crazy arsed decision not to include English subtitles on the R2 DVD. Yes, for a film that's mostly in Spanish, it has no subtitles. The R1 DVD had them, but I can only guess that someone somewhere thinks anyone in Europe will magically know all major European languages or perhaps simply not want to watch a film about Mexican immigrant families in the US. I found subtitles online but not even VLC could be persuaded to play them whilst watching the DVD - if I wanted to use them it appears I'd have to rip the film to divx or the like first, as it only wanted to take the subtitle cues from the DVD. Grr.

After that was Catwoman. Yes, I mistakenly though "How bad can it?" Before ever asking yourself that question, please make sure you fully understand just how bad things can indeed be. Some of the film was okay, but a hunk of bad acting combined with bad script made for teh lameness of the century - too many baad cat jokes, only made worse by more in the extras (I could not stand Eartha Kitt's presenting of the "Many Faces of Cat Woman" - speak properly, please for the love of the gods don't purr every word out! Too disturbing). Minor Canadian actor spotting and being squeeful at the number of cats was the main highlight of the film - Christopher Heyerdahl (Halling SGA) was very good as the tough partying Irish neighbour. Thankfully this bad taste stint was broken by "Dog Soliders" - good ol' action and gore soldier flick, oh, and with werewolves. Fairly impressive for a film that has no CGI, they did good.

Don't know how badly she purrred the words in the film, I'm sure it was exaggerated, but Eartha Kitt has a strange purry way of talking anyway.

Still, no desire to see the film. Heard "Real Women" was good, though.

Halle Berry only did one really bad thing with purring "What a purrrrrrrfect ppppllan" *shudders* I think I just can't take how Eartha kitt Talks...

There were some wonderful bits in Real Women (the factory scene involving lack of fan - go sisters!) but I really had a hard time enjoying what I couldn't interpret. Body language and context only get you so far - but I blame the person who decided not to include subtitles for not being to appreciate that film properly. I just don't know what they were thinking there.

Don't get me wrong, not a bad film but something was missing - in particular when I watched the deleted scenes I felt like the film would have worked much better if they'd opted to keep those scene in as they explained the characters much better.

OK. I understand. It's one of the toughest decisions deciding which scenes should be included cos of the time frame.
well, when I get chance, I'll watch it.
