Sad news - The 4400 officially cancelled

I was a bit surprised to hear someone mention this on a convention site, presuming they were refering to the props being sold off and extrapolating from that. The official site has no press release on the main page but checking out the official message board there was a post by Scott Peter yesterday. As you'd expect a petition for the fifth season is already underway.

What I'd mainly like to say is: damn.

I was so looking forward to season 5. The show may have had it's faults but it was good for pete's sake. I suppose it never helped to have a smaller viewer base being on a lesser known network but it was really ace scifi for at least 2 seasons, may have ambled down a bit in 3 and 4 but generally came out on a high point and the finale's for season were always ace, the last one in particular. Now we have that gloriously open-ended cliffhanger that won't be going anywhere and frakking hell I want to see the rest of the story. I do dearly hope they can continue the story somehow, comics or the like. :(

I've never watched the series - it sounds like you recommend at least the first two seasons?

The first two seasons I felt were excellent. The third and fourth suffered with losing a couple of good characters and one or two other character's being a bit off. Mainly the bad stuff was related to some network interference but it was mild compared to some shows I guess and they at least took risks with their story telling evne if they didn't please everyone.

The mythology was always mysterious, getting just enough answers as it went along but still keeping interest piqued. The cliffhanger for S4 left the show at a high at least, but they radically changed the whole setup there, reshaping the lives of every character and in turn the city it was set in if not the whole world in that universe, and I was looking forward to see the new season because of it. Also, ones of my favourite character got an upgrade in plot terms and I was hoping he'd be a regular in S5 and the actor'd get a big chunk of something to sink his teeth into acting wise (he always did great with what little he had to work with) but alas it was not be.

I don't like this!!! honestly last season was amazing!!! I do hope they give us a mini-serie or something like it again...

I'd definitely say checking it out on DVD would be good. The first 2 seasons are ace and the rest might depend of your opinion but they aren't bad per se. I've enjoyed the show a great deal - it was my second big fandom after SGA so quite crushed to see the show go.

Gives the perfect reason to get back into fic, continuation through the happens to be AU because the writers never finished it angle. You can never again be made wrong by canon superceeding your ideas! ;P

Though seriously, there's talk between a few of us on 4400spoilers of trying to write a virtual season 5 which could be good as a collaborative effort. :)

Virtual season 5...on one hand, I love the idea, and would love to help in any way I can...on the other, I'm a-fearing that the creation of a virtual season might discourage the show's writers/producers from continuing (admittedly, SG1 and either B5 or Pretender managed to avoid being cancelled while there was a mid-show virtual season)

lol, er no I doubt a virtual season being made (which is really just a slightly more organised fic in scripty format) would have any impact whatsoever on the show.

This is so unfair!!
I was looking forward to the fifth season. They can't leave the storyline like that. I hope they somehow get a sequel of some kind. The 4400 was one of my favorite show...now I feel so sad.
