Dear Festividder
Oct. 23rd, 2022 08:34 pmSomewhat filled in but more to come later.
DO NOT WANTS:
Some physical/visual effects cause me eye strain and/or may trigger my migraines.
-blinking/flashing/flickering/strobe light effects, stutter cuts, shaky camera work, lots of very fast cuts in a short time frame, or shots that are very highly saturated or very high contrast (a bit of increased contrast or colour to make things pop or stand out better is fine but really intense colours/high contrast cause me problems)
Vid likes
Bands - Radiohead, Garbage, Depeche Mode, Daughter, Digital Daggers, Florence + The Machine, NIN, Taylor Swift - more TBA
Styles - indie, britpop, alt, classical covers of pop songs, synthpop
I have fairly eclectic music tastes, but you can probably get a decent idea of what music I like by what I've put in my fanmixes over here.
Music dislikes:
country music, RnB, hiphop, rap, thrash metal, jazz, anything using slurs (general swearing is fine though), very schmoopy songs
I don't mind instrumentals but if a vid has lyrics I prefer it to be in English, although German or French would work for me too as I could translate it as part of my language learning practice.
Only Murders in the Building (TV)
I would love either a quirky comedy showcasing vid, or something ensemble about the different characters (and maybe considering the building as a character in a way?), or a Mabel character study. For Mabel, I don't mind if a character study that also has Mabel/Oscar and/or Mabel/Alice in it. I'm also interested in Mabel & Theo and Mabel/Theo if anyone likes that idea too. I also love the puzzle theme for her and the focus on her art.
A League of Their Own (2022)
I think what I enjoyed most about this show was just how queer it got to be and how much queer joy there was, despite the period typical issues of homophobia/transphobia. Something about queer joy and solidarity would be great. I also love the friendships and that they get to fulfill their dreams by playing ball so I'd be good with those as a focus instead or as well as.
Do Revenge (2022)
I enjoyed this film so much I wanted to watch it again right away. I love the different layers to it, the friendship that is uncomfortably resting ontop of something darker. The aesthetics are so fun too. I'd love something somewhat fastpaced about the back and forth of the plotting and how everything starts to spiral out of control. Drea/Eleanor would be fantastic but I'm good with a general vid about the film too or friendship focused. I'd also be into a vid about the school ending up having a big polycule situation after the explanation of polyamory plot point (just no Max as part of that, thanks).
Dirk Gently (TV 2010)
It's been a while since I've seen this one but I love all things Dirk Gently and would be excited for a vid of it. What I enjoyed the most in the show were: the very Britishness of it, the oddball humour, the strange methods of Dirk that nevertheless work. A vid about the interconnectedness of things and/or conceptual about quantum mechanics related to it all would be great.
Dollhouse (TV 2009)
I'd love something about the issues of identity this show's concepts raise, or a character vid for Topher, about his arc from being the flippant tech guy to one of the people trying desperately to fix everything.
Free Guy (2021)
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would be happy for pretty much anything for it. But if you want some ideas: a character vid for Millie or Guy (or both at once) or a vid generally about the AI's becoming more and more conscious. I feel like there's also some interesting meta in the film about the games industry - both in terms of what it's selling to the gamers and also how it treats employees with dreams of things being different than the commercialised model that brings in the cash - so if that interests you I'd love to see a vid about that.
Masters of Sex
The relationships in this show are fairly messed up but I also find them fascinating with how things change between the main three over time. I feel like Libby in particular is being pulled by currents she can't really predict or doesn't know exist even in some cases, since she only knows so much about what's between Ginny and Bill. But on the flipside Ginny's also in a weird position knowing more about Bill and Libby but only being able to affect the outcome of things by her own choices since Bill is often so unmovable, barely ever explaining himself. I also enjoy the theme of Bill and Ginny using science as a cover for what they want, a validation for what they know others wouldn't approve of. Anyhow, if you felt like exploring the power dynamics between Bill, Libby and Ginny that would be great and if you wanted to make something moving that into OT3 territory for Bill/Ginny/Libby I'd be very happy for that. I'm also fond of Ginny/Lillian if that interests and would equally love a character vid focused on Ginny and her ambitions.
Palm Springs (2020)
I love timeloop stories, possibly too much. This one actually surprised me some and felt like a fresher take on the trope. And it's a quite fun film visually too. I would really enjoy a quirky vid about the bizarrity of it all, about the many different loops, their experimenting with what they can do during them and what they learn about themselves during it.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
I adored this show but it never really got that popular and got cancelled too soon. Themes I enjoyed on the show that I would love to see a vid about: the questions about AI consciousness and if all the AI's they come across are destined to be evil/should be destroyed, characters grappling with what's fated for them, the relationship between John & Cameron (shippy or gen), the temporariness of their lives both in terms of being ready to move on at a moments notice and in knowing the end of the world is coming sooner or later.
Uncharted (Movie 2022)
I'm a big fan of the games, which are somewhat different to how the movie ended up, but I did also enjoy this a lot as its own thing. It's a good action romp, with some wonderful locations and fun treasure hunting/heistiness. I'd be happy with an action vid but character stuff would also be welcomed - maybe something about the trio of Nate, Sully and Chloe coming together to figure things out (literally with the hunt but also with their new partnerships) and tension of the inevitable betrayals would be fun.

Vid likes
- I love vids that show parallels between characters/ships, are character studies, or show a new way of looking at canon by tying scenes/quotes together
- I'm not keen on drastic colouring changes/effects that obscure the source material but I do love seeing variety of colour from the source material scenes though
- Also love sense of space and movement in vids.
- Text effects to highlight lyrics I find fun if you like doing those, so long as they aren't flashing ones
